Before you buy a safe, it’s a good idea to familiarise yourself with the grading system that shows a safe’s ability to withstand attack. The Insafe range of Grade 0 – VI safes are all independently tested and certified in accordance with European Standard EN1143-1.
Before you buy a safe, it’s a good idea to familiarise yourself with the grading system that shows a safe’s ability to withstand attack. The Insafe range of Grade 0 – VI safes are all independently tested and certified in accordance with European Standard EN1143-1.
How Does The Grading System Work For Safes?
Each safe is subject to a series of tests before it can be certified and granted an EN1143-1 status, using the numbers 0 – VI.
The highest rating, Grade VI, means that the safe has the greatest level of resistance in the event of an attack, whereas a Grade 0 rating indicates less resistance. However, this does not mean that safes that have Grade 0 ratings are not worthy of your attention. In fact, they are great for home usage and the storage of cash and valuables. Essentially, the grades are created to help you make an informed decision so you can select the right product for your home or business.
Insafe Safe Evaluation
Along with a grade, a cash rating is also assigned which indicates the cash amount it was created to protect. After detailed testing from national agencies such as the The Loss Prevention Certification Board (LPCB) safes are then awarded with grades. Safes are also awarded with fire ratings. However, these are not part of the EN1143-1 security testing.
It goes without saying that you should always insure the contents of your safe, which is where the cash rating comes into play. Your coverage depends on the grade of safe. Each grade has the following ratings:
Insafe Grade 0 – cash rating of £6000 and a valuables rating of £60000.
Insafe Grade I – cash rating of £10000 and a valuables rating of £100000.
Insafe Grade II – cash rating of £17500 and a valuables rating of £175000.
Insafe Grade III – cash rating of £35000 and a valuables rating of £350000.
Insafe Grade IV – cash rating of £60000 and a valuables rating of £600000.
Insafe Grade V – cash rating of £100000 and a valuables rating of £1000000.
Insafe Grade VI – cash rating of £150000 and a valuables rating of £1500000.
As you can see from the grades, if you store valuables as opposed to cash, all you have to do is multiply the cash rating by 10 if you want to find out the rating for them. The grading system makes it easier to find out which safes are ideal for using at home and which can be used in a business setting.
