Our History

Insafe is a British brand founded to design and manufacture safes for the UK retail industry. The acquisition of Guardian Safes and a factory in Wolverhampton helped the development of a range of safes to protect cash and valuables in homes, business and commerce.

Insafe now manufactures safes in every grade and every size with Insafe also becoming Gunnebo’s Sole UK Distribution Partner for the sales and marketing of Chubbsafes. Insafe provides the sales, service and customer support for all Chubbsafes products.

The Chubbsafes History

1818

Chubbsafes was founded by Charles and Jeremiah Chubb who opened their first manufactory in Temple Street, Wolverhampton. The Chubb brothers started the company by designing and manufacturing safes and locks for banking and financial institutions. In the same year, they patented their Detector Lock, a revolutionary system for that time: the detector mechanism rendered the lock inoperable in case of attempt to pick the lock or to open it with a wrong key.

1835

The Chubb brothers took out a patent for a burglary-resistant safe and set up a safe and vaults and vault doors factory.

1882

The business became a private limited company, changing its name to Chubb & Sons Lock and Safe Company Ltd.

1950

Manufacture of Chubb security equipment began in South Africa.

1954

Manufacture of Chubb products began in Canada.

1957

The Chubb Lock & Safe Company of Rhodesia Ltd. was founded.

1958

Chatwood-Milner Ltd. became a member of the Chubb Group.

1959

Chubb introduced a new alloy known as TDR (Torch and Drill Resisting).
Chubb Lock & Safe Company of New Zealand was founded.
